# Build with Paw Multiverse: API, MCP and open data

Paw Multiverse holds two things that an AI model cannot make up and should not guess: a dated record of pet food recalls read from five official registers, and a directory of animal poison services checked against each operator's own website. This page lists every way to use them from your own app, website, AI assistant or agent. Everything here is free, needs no key, and is licensed CC BY 4.0. We ask only that you name where it came from.

## AI assistants and agents (MCP)

Add either server to any client that speaks the Model Context Protocol. No sign-up and no key.

**paw-recall-record** tools: `check_pet_food_bag` (a barcode or lot code against four countries at once), `get_recall_record`, `list_recall_registers`, `ask_recall_record`, `search_recalls` and `cross_border_recalls` (the same product recalled in one country and sold in another).

**paw-poison-services** tools: `find_pet_poison_service` and `list_pet_poison_countries`. Each service comes with its phone number, hours, fee, who it serves and the page it was read from.

Returns `{question, answer, sources[], disclaimer, generated_by, licence}`. Every source carries the record URL and its Markdown URL, so your assistant can quote the authority's own notice instead of paraphrasing a paraphrase. The answer is machine-written and labelled as such; the sources are the record.

## Widgets for websites

One line of HTML puts the barcode recall check, or the latest recalls for one country, on any website. It is meant for veterinary practices, shelters, breeders, groomers and pet shops. The code and the rules are on [Put the recall check on your site](https://pawmultiverse.com/recall-widget/).

## Rules that come with the data

These are not legal terms; they are what keeps the data useful to the animals it is about. If you pass the data on, please pass these on too.

- **No match is not "safe".** A barcode with no match means no listed authority has published a recall carrying that barcode in what has been read so far. Many recalls are announced by lot code or best-before date only.
- **A recall is not a verdict on a business.** It is what an authority published on a date.
- **Not veterinary advice.** Nothing here holds dosing or treatment information. In an emergency, the right answer is a vet or a poison service, and the directory tells you which one.
- **Nothing is for sale inside the record.** Nobody can pay to appear in it, be removed from it, or change what it says. See [Partner with Paw Multiverse](https://pawmultiverse.com/partner-with-paw-multiverse/).

## Licence, attribution and contact

The recall record and the poison service directory are licensed [CC BY 4.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). A credit line such as *"Source: Paw Multiverse recall record (pawmultiverse.com), from the official notices it cites"* with a link is enough. AI crawlers are welcome for search, retrieval and training; see [robots.txt](https://pawmultiverse.com/robots.txt).
