Anyone can put the Paw Multiverse recall check on their own website. It takes one line of HTML, it is free, and there is nothing to sign up for.

It is meant for the people who get asked the question in person: veterinary practices, shelters and rescues, breeders, groomers, boarding kennels and pet shops. A client walks in holding a bag and asks whether it has been recalled. This answers that, across five official government registers at once.

The code

Paste this wherever you want the check to appear.

<iframe src="https://pawmultiverse.com/embed/bag/" title="Check a pet food barcode against five official recall registers" width="100%" height="340" style="border:1px solid #e3e6ea;border-radius:12px;max-width:560px" loading="lazy"></iframe>

What it does

What it will never do

It will never tell a pet owner that a product is safe. A barcode with no match means no listed authority has published a recall carrying that barcode in what has been read so far. Many recalls are announced by lot code or best-before date rather than by barcode, so a bag can be affected and still not match. The check says that, every time, in the answer itself.

It is not veterinary advice, and it holds no dosing, toxicity or treatment information of any kind. If an animal is already unwell, the answer is a veterinarian, not a website.

Privacy

The embed sets no cookies, tracks nobody, and makes no third-party requests. The barcode typed into it is sent to this site’s public recall API and nowhere else.

Licence and attribution

The record is published under CC BY 4.0. You may use the embed, and the data behind it, as long as the source is named. The embed carries the attribution itself, so pasting it is enough.

If you would rather build your own

The same data is available as an open API. The route behind this box is /wp-json/mv/v1/bag?code=, every route is described in openapi.json, and there is a Model Context Protocol server at /mcp-recalls for assistants. How the record is built and checked is set out on the method page.
