Pet Cost Calculator

What does a pet really cost per year? Estimate before you adopt — food, vet care, insurance and supplies.

What drives the cost of a pet

Food is the biggest recurring cost for most pets — a large dog can eat €40–80 of food per month while a hamster costs a few euros. Routine vet care (vaccinations, parasite prevention, checkups) typically adds €100–300 per year, and insurance €15–40 per month depending on species, breed and age. Grooming, boarding and dog-walking can double the budget for some owners.

The numbers above are mid-European averages — costs in your country may differ, but the ratios hold. Before adopting, also budget an emergency fund of €500–1,000: a single surgery can cost that much. Compare daily feeding amounts with our Dog Food Calculator.
