No — dangerous
No — chocolate is just as poisonous to cats as to dogs, and cats are smaller, so even tiny amounts of dark chocolate matter. Luckily most cats can’t taste sweetness.
The same theobromine and caffeine that poison dogs affect cats — overstimulating the heart and nervous system — and a typical 4 kg cat reaches dangerous doses with very little chocolate: 20 g of dark chocolate can be enough for moderate toxicity. Cats lack sweet-taste receptors so deliberate chocolate theft is rarer than in dogs, but cream-based desserts, chocolate milk and cocoa-dusted treats still catch curious cats. White chocolate is a negligible theobromine source but still an inappropriate fatty dairy treat.
None. If your cat ate chocolate, note the type and amount and call your vet straight away — treatment is most effective early. Symptoms can take 6–12 hours to show.
Cat-safe treats from the pet shop or a lick of plain cooked chicken beat any dessert. Curious about dairy? See can cats drink milk?
