Tips for choosing a dog name

Dogs respond best to short names with 1–2 syllables and crisp consonants — “Max” and “Ruby” are easier to learn than “Maximilian von Barkenstein” (though the long version is fun on paper). Avoid names that sound like commands: “Kit” sounds like “sit”, “Bo” like “no”. Once you choose, use the name consistently and reward your dog for responding to it — most dogs learn their name within a few days.
