Dog Age Calculator

How old is your dog in human years? The old “multiply by 7” rule is wrong — age depends on your dog’s size. Get the accurate answer below.

How dog years really work

A dog’s first year equals roughly 15 human years, and the second adds about 9 more. After that, each year counts for 4–7 human years depending on size: small breeds like Chihuahuas age about 4 years per year, while giant breeds like Great Danes age about 7. That’s why a 10-year-old Chihuahua (~56 human years) is “younger” than a 10-year-old Great Dane (~80 human years).

Knowing your dog’s human-equivalent age helps you time vet checkups, adjust food portions (try our Dog Food Calculator), and spot age-related changes early. Most dogs are considered seniors at 7–10 years, smaller breeds later, larger breeds earlier.
